"Many Happy Returns to the Tube. On the 10th January 1863 the world's first ever public underground line opened. The Metropolitan Line had trains running every 10 minutes and carried 40,000 passengers between Paddington and Farringdon that day."
And many thanks to the wonderful Annie Mole and her blog, a great part of my week.

Good to know this! Every time I get to London, I love the tube. But I'll always remember my first time there with my mother when I was 26--it was such fun to navigate!
Oh my goodness, indeed! Very cool. It's so amazing how technology has developed and how developed technology was! (Does that make sense at all?)
Perfect sense. And it wasn't until I'd navigated the New York subway system during my first visit there in the 90s that I came home and finally learned how to undestand the London Underground! Once I realised it's always either up or down, every route made sense.
Mind you, I still have no idea how "Mornington Crescent" on the BBC Radio 4 programme "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" works...
