One of my most favourite films, one of the films that we watched together as a family just after the movie was released on vid, is True Romance. And the greatest scene, heart-breakingly brilliant, is the Eggplant Scene. Dennis Hopper portrays the absent father, who in the remaining minutes of his life, redeems himself and gives his life for his son's. It really begins when he draws on his fag, having realised at that moment he is about to die. And he thinks, Fuck it, I'm going to end the torture and tell you what a scumbag you are. Christopher Walken wearing his confessional stole is of course, the perfect foil. Two champions of film. But it's Dennis who breaks your heart.
